when i began formal study of religion and biblical analysis it was like peeling off layer after layer of dark matter, sticky and putrid that had stuck over my eyes and ears and mouth.
i learned that under the watchtower one only builds a widening gap between yourself and the world of biblical academia and scholars.
i used to think i knew a lot because i learned to quote a few scholars or lexicons as a witness.
The Protestant Christian doctrine that the Bible is the supreme authority in all matters of doctrine and practice (faith).
It should be noted that neither Judaism nor Catholicism/Orthodox Christianity can adopt this belief since their religious systems were alive and well before the Biblical texts were written

Very informative thread! Although I've lost all faith, I can't call myself an atheist because it's threads like this that prove to me that I've learned just enough to know that I don't really know anything at all. It makes me so sad that in this small lifespan that I have, I won't have the time to figure everything out.
Hey Bonsai, who gave you permission to take those words out of my head, that is exactly how I feel. I couldn't have said it any better.

it sounds to me like he was a jw before he became a physician.
"kalauawa, who became a jw 31 years ago, said he had to overcome a major conflict between his religious and professional beliefs, because jws are opposed to blood transfusions.
During his residency [medical training] he resolved the dilemma by having other doctors order transfusions.
Once the transfusion was ordered by another doctor, then in clear conscience he could go ahead and insert the needle and start pumping that blood.
"Another pint please"

The writers from Christian Post should learn how to read a NY Times article.
The writer was probably a former Watchtower magazine writer.

ToesUp
